American thanksgiving has brought me home for this last week in November. Home has brought me family, friends, and... FRIGID cold weather. Instead of throwing angry fists at the sky, murmuring, and occasionally weeping, I use this opportunity to decorate the Christmas tree in preparation for the month of December! In a perfectly captured moment I felt inspired to write...
“…God bless us everyone, the good and the bad, the happy the sad, heres to family and friends, it’s good to be here again…” Celine Dion’s Christmas CD plays softly in the background, and the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg waft into the room. The second youngest son, Adam, sits thoughtfully reading a book on the brown leather loveseat, while mother is busily making supper in the kitchen behind him. You can faintly hear the tinkling of a Christmas music box coming from downstairs, where Grandpa is entertaining his grandchild. The aroma of peace and joy fills the air as the family is finally all together again for Christmas.
I sit next to the Christmas tree, my favorite spot, and stare, enchanted by the crystal balls reflecting the sparkling white tree lights, and the rich red colored ornaments in contrast to the deep forest green of the tree itself. I only get to enjoy these moments once every year, so I soak up as much as I can get in this one month of December.
